  Unlike some here, I have a life and it doesn't revolve around posting to this Atheists Online Usedtobe J'Dubs forum (tm). Why there is more evidence for the life, times and history of Jesus Christ than any other figure EVER known. Yep, a little semitic state on the fringes of the Roman Empire was the land where a man who directly affected only a few hundred people was crucified, buried in a tomb and rose again! Try out J. McDowall's "Evidence that Demands a Verdict" (1 & 2), then maybe 'Mere Christianity', ah, wait a minute, try these out:

  friends, my heart is a little heavy at the moment.

  someone i met on witnet last year is having struggles.

  i will not reveal his real name or location, but suffice it to say he is going through the worst of it now and needs your prayers or buddhist chants or whatever.. a little background, he first wrote me the below post, which i saved because i thought he had balls to write and question me, and i was a little paranoid, wondering if he was witnet thought police.. but, i sensed something different about him, that he really needed to ask questions.

  Hi Lisa,
  If this guy is anywhere within 100 miles of Pittsburgh or East Ohio I would be happy to meet him, or call him if he would like. My friends and I would be happy to pray for him in the meantime.
  He is actually much better off to have his eyes open wide. Now he knows what this cult does to people. Imagine him finding this out after the honeymoon!

  This kind of thing is sadly typical of those who leave the WTS. You have a combination of those who feel sorry for themselves and their years of being deceived, those who have not even made a comparison of REAL Christianity to their cult experience and those who do not want to face the fact that a life without eternity in mind is a wasted life.
  They ignore the stunning events of changed lives that follows a true conversion to Christianity. They ignore the mountainous evidence of the resurrection as a fact provable in a court of law. They ignore the Christian outreach programs that feed starving people when no one else will help, the totally funded programs for the poor, the orphans, the widows, the lost and forgotten people of the world. They rant about 'Mere Christianity' in the face of world events like moslem death squads, communist chinese hegemony and oppression, millions of babies being slaughtered in the womb, they accuse Christians of being 'sexist' for demanding the right to life, they cry about the USA executing convicted and fully appealed murderers.

  a significant number of former jehovah's witnesses come out of the watchtower still believing the bible and considering themselves christians.

  most coming out are in a serious state of bewilderment, and they look intently and sincerely for something to fill the huge void of lost religion, lost family and friends, and lost fellowship.

  they seek some viable spiritual association with others of like mind while at the same time having become very wary of any organized religion.. what is it that eventually draws so many of us (not me) to agnosticism or atheism?

  Hi Amazing,
  Your story is one that you would be extremely hard pressed to find an example of in the much maligned 'fundy' denominations. Everyone here loves to slander any evangelical Christian congo by comparing them to the WTS but their is a world of difference.
  The WTS is a cult and it fits the title very well.
  Fundys minister to people and serve them, they don't pry into their private lives or expect them to be anything but human.

  Ros' brand of Christianity:

  Be ready to compromise any principal regardless of whether or not it is Biblical.
  Blame 'fundys' and 'evangelicals' for atheism because unlike Ros, they do not 'water down' biblical principals.
  Cut out parts of the Bible that are unpopular or seem out of date. After all, even if Jesus did teach it as literal, modern science can prove him wrong (little 'g', not really God).
  Ignore the fact that a large percentage of ex-JWs find their way to salvation and REAL Christianity through the efforts of Christians who care.
  If Jim Penton doesn't believe it, don't you either. LOL

  Oh, and ignore the fact that the whole theme of the New Testament is the fact that Christ's blood and His death on the cross is a propitiatary sacrifice for the sins of mankind. Jesus God died not only for us but AS us. You also forgot the command from Him that tells us, 'Go and make disciples.'
  You're not being true to yourself, the Bible or the lost souls here.

  Uncle Elder Comes To Town

  on the way to work mom mentioned that her brother uncleb(elder in another state) is coming to visit and stay with her for a bit.. seems like his best and long time friend co sal infantino is taking a short vacation from the 'circuit work' and is going to be here at the same time.

  of course they have time planned together.. what i found interesting is that i have been invited over to 'talk' with him???

  ?hmmmmmmmmmm considering that up until now i have persona non grata during his visits.. any suggestions how i can slip some silentlambs and other info into his suitcase?

  I've been in emotional turmoil due to an imbalance in my (female) chemistry. My doc says to stay away from undue stress. Let 'em know that you are feeling a little wacky and you also know a very good lawyer (if they keep pestering you, tell them you are getting a court order on them personally).

  I *witnessed* to the *Christians* last night--LOL!

  thought you all would enjoy this.. i went to a b'day party for a friend who is a bible-thumper in the worst way!

  (10x worse than most jw).. i'm sitting around like a zombie while everyone is talking about how "blessed" they are to "know christ" blah blah blah blah blah.. then my interest got peaked as one of the women started quoting scripture talking about how the reason her life is blessed is that her great great grandmother was a russian mennonite blah blah blah and the bible says that god will bless your offspring if you come to know him.

  blah blah blah.. so i start asking a few well placed questions like "well what does that mean for the poor muslim sop whose great great grandmother was a muslim?

  The problem is that you keep drawing a conclusion comparing apples and oranges. Real Christianity, i.e. 'fundamentalism' is totally different from cults like JWs and others. These groups are easily spotted if you know what to look for:
  They use the same words yet change or twist the meaning.
  They are authoritarian, top down structure for doctrinal beliefs.
  They promote long disproven heresies as the 'real truth'.
  They promote themselves as 'better' than other 'religions' or 'christians'.
  They ignore the fact that a 'saved' Christian can still sin but should gradually improve, faith first and works as a result of their dedication.
  They pretend to be 'Biblical' but have their own peculiar beliefs that actually deny well-researched, verifiable teachings.

  Quacking away about how smart you are when you have been shown to know very little will not change the fact that you are hopelessly wrong.

  LDH,
  Your lack of biblical understanding is really amazing, for someone who wants to critisize doctrine you have no clue. ELECTION, predestination, foreknowledge and add to that we admit there are things unknowable in the Bible, unlike the basic cult contentions that you seem to cling to.
  I give up. If you won't even look at the issue in an honest matter, forget it.
